Canoe/Kayak Rentals
The Stone Age Rock Gym no longer rents canoes or kayaks.
Where to Canoe/Kayak Locally
- Union Pond (Manchester, CT) - This small lake was formed by damming
the Hockanum River. It has a carry in boat launch so only canoes and
kayaks will be found on this lake.No guided trips.
- Bolton Lakes (Bolton, CT) - This local lake has a public boat launch
area, public swim area, and a variety of shoreline. Motors are limited
to 6hp, so boats cannot create big wakes. Good bass fishing.
- Hockanum River (Vernon to E. Hartford, CT) - The Hockanum is a spring
run-off river. It is runable April, May, early June, and after flood
like rainstorms. Don't miss the annual race held early April (See flyers
at the Gym). No Guided Trips.
- Willimantic River (Stafford Springs to Eagleville, CT) - This river
swells with spring run-off and rainstorms. Route 72 and south is runable
year round. It is classified as "quick water" with no real
rapids. It offers excellent trout and bass fishing.
- Conn. River (Enfield to S. Windsor, CT) - The mighty Connecticut
River has many boat launches. Adventure Sports Inc. guided trips covers
2 sections of the river. Don't underestimate the power of this river.
Some class 1 rapids. Excellent bass fishing.
- Farmington River (Riverton to Tariffville, CT) - The Farmington River
can be run spring, summer, or fall. Adventure Sports Inc. guided trips
covers 2 sections of the river. It offers class 1, 2, & 3 whitewater.
Extreme caution should be used by paddlers in Tariffville Gorge. Excellent
trout fishing.
